Who is John Bibby?
Well, there are several of
us.
I am a semi-retired maths
educator and statistician based in York, England.
Brought up in London and
Hull, for 30 years from 1966 I was an academic hack, interested in multivariate
analysis, social/radical statistics, soft political activism, and Ghanaian and
African education.
My main employers have been
Accra
Academy (Ghana)
London
School of Economics
The
Open University
and universities in St.
Andrews, Edinburgh, York and Sheffield. I have also worked in Cuba, Botswana,
India, Germany (DDR) and New Zealand.
In 1995 I took early
retirement. Since then my main ‘mission’ has been to promote access and equity
to complex ideas. I have worked with QED (a private company that I used to
own), Mathemagic (a community organisation that I was involved in establishing,
Maths Year 2000 and Count On (the government’s “Maths for All” projects), and
more recently with Community Regeneration York (who have taken over
MatheMagic).
